About Us  Contact  Travel Green

Make mountains of memories when your family stays with Smoky Mountain Resorts.

Smoky Mountain Resorts takes great pride in sharing and preserving our environment for the enjoyment of future generations. On behalf of the American Hotel & Motel Association's "Good Earthkeeping" campaign, we offer several programs that will help preserve the environment and its natural resources.

Upon arrival, each guest room is complete with fresh towels and linens that have been carefully laundered.

Reusing towels conserves water and energy and reduces the release of detergents into the environment. It's our pleasure to replenish your towels daily, but the decision is yours: a towel on the rack or hook means "Thank you, I'll use again", while a towel on the floor or in the tub means "Please replace".

Bed linens also represent a significant use of water. Unless more frequent changes are requested, guest linens are changed on every third day of your stay.

Where possible, Smoky Mountain Resorts utilizes energy-efficient fluorescent lighting.

Tips for travelling green

    Before you leave:
  • Perform regular maintenance on your vehicle and be sure to check all fluid levels, filters and tire pressure. Your vehicle manufacturer will list the recommended tire pressure in your owner's manual or a sticker on the door jamb of the driver-side door.
  • Proper maintenance also means using the right octane gas and the recommended grade of motor oil. Using the recommended types for your vehicle will give you optimum fuel economy — and can save you money. Check your owner's manual for your vehicle's recommendations.
  • Alternatively, rent a small car. The smaller your car, the less gas money you’ll spend - and the fewer emissions will pour into the air. Most rental cars are well-maintained, lowering your fuel costs and the chance of a breakdown. Look into hybrid-electric or biodiesel cars, which may not be as expensive as you think.
  • Plan your drive. Don't waste time and gas wandering aimlessly. Print your maps & tourist information before you go. Instead of buying expensive guidebooks and maps, print the sections you need from online mapping websites. Or, bookmark your 'directions' and bring your laptop and map as you go.
  • Buy a solar charger. Most cameras, phones and mp3 players can be charged with a solar charger, which saves carbon dioxide emissions and energy.
  • Picnic on your way. Prepare a healthy lunch of fruits, vegetables and nuts to eat during your drive.
  • Pack light. Only bring what you need to bring. Extra weight means using extra fuel. Remove roof racks. Store everything you need inside the vehicle. Roof racks and the items tied to them create extra drag and decrease fuel efficiency.
  • Get ready first, then go. How many times have you jumped into the car and realized your laptop or bag is still inside the house, then left the car idling while you fetch it? You can reduce the emissions by making sure you have everything you need and your seatbelts are fastened, before starting the engine.
    On the go:
  • Drive with windows up. If you keep your windows up, your car will be subject to less drag, which improves the aerodynamic profile of the vehicle.
  • Don't drive aggressively. Quick acceleration, hard braking and speeding all contribute to a decrease in fuel economy. Give yourself extra time to get to your destination and think "steady and smooth" as you drive. The DOE says that every 5 mph you drive over 65 mph represents a 7-percent decrease in fuel economy.
  • Using cruise control can improve your gas mileage by helping you maintain a steady speed, but only if you are driving on mostly flat roads. If you are driving in hilly terrain, using cruise control typically causes your vehicle to speed up faster (to maintain the preset speed) than it would if you were operating the accelerator yourself.
    While visiting:
  • During your hotel stay, try not to waste energy unnecessarily by continuing what you perhaps already practice at home. You can do this by turning off the television, switching all the lights off and turning the A/C or heat down when you go out. Opt for short showers and re-use towels.
  • Where possible, walk. Most attractions are located within walking distance of each other or your hotel. Park your car and walk to all the shops, shows, museums and restaurants in the area.
  • Take advantage of the Trolley. Sevierville, Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg all offer a convenient and inexpensive way to beat the traffic. Our local trolley systems make stops at many shopping centers, parks and attractions - including Dollywood.
